Subject: A speaking request from the Northwest Independent Editors Guild

Greetings,

I'm writing on behalf of the Portland chapter of the Northwest Independent Editors Guild, a professional and social network of about 200 Northwest freelance editors, to invite you to speak at our April 24 meeting, or another meeting in 2006 that fits your schedule.

[optional paragraph--why we're interested in what this person has to say] We are thrilled that A Word a Day has received so much recognition around the world, and we would love to spread the word about you and your site among our group of Northwest word lovers.

We are happy to offer our guest speakers a $40 gift certificate to Powell's as well as a complimentary dinner at Alexis Greek Restaurant, where our meetings take place.

Our past speakers have included Dennis Stovall, coordinator of the publishing program at Portland State University; Eve Goodman, editorial director of Timber Press; and Karen Kirtley, an editing teacher and former New York editor.

The Guild meets on the second Monday in February, April, June, August, October, and December at Alexis, a downtown Greek restaurant convenient to MAX. (The address is 215 West Burnside; it's a few blocks from the Skidmore Fountain stop.)

We generally ask our speakers to speak for 30-40 minutes, beginning around 6:30 p.m.

You can learn more about the Guild at www.edsguild.org, and I would be happy to answer questions as well, either via email or on the phone.

best,
Jane Doe
