When we have a speaker who might be of interest to a wider community than our own membership, here's what to do!

The Stranger:

E-mail readings[at]thestranger{dot}com [works for both print and online]

[This goes to both the newspaper and the online version. Theremay be someone you can email directly; need to investigate further.]

Hugo House website:

The Editors Guild Pooh-bah will e-mail kimmadalinski[at]hugohouse{dot}org with the name of the speaker and title of the talk; Hugo House needs event info at least one month in advance. Note also that the meeting description should be changed to "Open to all," rather than our customary "Open to current and prospective members."

Interested professional/community groups

Ask people who are members of potentially interested groups to post a notice to their lists. Here are some groups to which our members have connections.

Seattle Writergrrls: SC members Brie Gyncild or Michele Whitehead
Women in Digital Journalism: member Amy Smith Bell
Seattle-freelance.net: SC member Susan Hodges

Posts to listservs should make it clear that the event is open to all and requires no registration. In the posts people should be directed to the Seattle meetings page for more details: http://www.edsguild.org/seattle.htm

Notice to our list

Our administrator will post a notice about the meeting to the listserv about a week before the meeting. The notice should state that this particular meeting is open to all, and encourage members to forward the info to anyone they know who may be interested.
