Board of directors: We have several seats open on the Guild's board, a
congenial group of up to 12 members that meets every other month. We're looking
for energetic Guild members who are looking for new challenges and opportunities
to network with fellow editors and potential clients, and who have time in their
schedule for board service. Board members plan the bimonthly members’ meetings,
spearhead at least one Guild committee/project of their choosing, participate in
discussions about the Guild's needs, and help recruit new members for the board
and other Guild projects. Ideal candidates have demonstrated interest and
participation in the Guild during their time as members, have attended at least
several meetings, and are connected with their local editorial community.
Particularly desirable skills/experiences include leadership,
promotion/publicity/marketing/public relations, community organizing and
outreach, social media, event planning, organizational development, serving on
other boards, or helping to manage a membership organization. Board members’
terms are for two years, with the option of renewing your service. As a token of
our appreciation, board members receive a year of free Guild membership for each
year that they serve. If you’re interested, email our board president, Kara Ott,
at president@edsguild.org,
indicating your relevant skills and experiences, and your thoughts about the
Guild’s future. Current board members will be happy to chat with you and answer
your questions about board service at any members’ meeting in Seattle. You can also find
out more about the board at http://www.edsguild.org/board.htm.
Conference:
If you're interested in helping out with the 2013 conference, please e-mail
conference@edsguild.org. Thank you!
Portland organizer: A position on the board of directors (see above) is
available for a Guild member interested in helping to organize periodic meetings
and/or social gatherings for Portland-area members, and/or in helping to
coordinate a Guild presence at Portland literary events such as the Writers
Resource Fair and Wordstock. The Guild and the board will provide you with
materials and other support. If interested, contact board president Kara Ott at
president@edsguild.org.
Website content: We're seeking content writers for the Guild's website redesign
project. We're seeking to improve the usability and professionalism of this
website, and have done much work to determine what existing content is
unnecessary and what new content is needed. We hope to start making writing
assignments soon. Some pieces may have author bylines or even credit both the
author and the editor. Contact board member Beth Chapple at
website@edsguild.org if you'd like to be part of this volunteer team!
