Three Ways to Experience This Year’s Red Pencil Conference
Online vs. In-Person vs. Hybrid Conference: Which is Best For You?
In a world where Zoom calls and virtual meetups have become the norm, the debate between in-person and online conferences is more relevant than ever. While some people swear by the energy and networking opportunities of face-to-face events, others appreciate the convenience and accessibility of tuning in from anywhere. That’s why we designed this year’s Red Pencil Conference to offer both in-person and virtual attendance on November 8, with a third hybrid option that incorporates in-person attendance with digital perks like online access to recordings!

Red Pencil In-Person Conference: Networking and Organic Interaction
The main benefit of attending Red Pencil in-person at the Lynnwood Event Center is the chance to network, talk with other colleagues about relevant editing topics, attend multiple sessions, and directly ask questions to the presenters themselves.
There’s also the hallway, coffee breaks, lunch, and pre-session chatter that you won’t get within a virtual environment. With the chance to talk with other attendees you can learn some new professional advice, get tips and tricks on a specific topic, or simply make a professional connection that can help expand your network. Or even if it’s not a professional connection, you can make a friend that might show up at another Northwest Editors Guild event in the future! You’ll also get access to fun events and collaborative sessions exclusive to the in-person conference, like networking sessions, a new members breakfast meetup, and Editors Helping Editors Live! Red Pencil In-Person + Virtual Conference: Classic Format with Digital Perks
Of course, certain things about in-person events can be challenging. A big one is trying to make sure you can attend all the potential sessions you’d like—especially if specific sessions of interest are running at the same time.
This common conference dilemma inspired our hybrid option, which incorporates in-person attendance with six months of access to recordings of popular sessions. Now you can have the best of both worlds, with all the perks of in-person attendance (see above!) without being forced to choose between competing sessions. With our new hybrid ticket, you can attend your sessions of choice on November 8 and enjoy six months of virtual access to recordings to catch up on whatever you missed. Red Pencil Virtual Conference: Flexibility and Accessibility
This year’s virtual conference has the main advantage of allowing you to attend from the comfort of your own home, personal office, or even your local coffee spot. Being able to log on from your computer gives you much more flexibility and control over your overall conference experience with the ability to choose which sessions you’d like to attend, access to on-demand video recordings, and the ability to step away from your computer for time to refresh and refuel. Virtual attendees will still get opportunities to connect with other attendees at two different online networking sessions!
This online event offers increased accessibility and makes it easier for attendees who might not be able to make it otherwise. Now it doesn’t matter if you live within driving distance of Seattle, or even in the Pacific Northwest. Instead of requiring time off or spending money for travel, you can simply log on to your computer and have access to a wide array of editing knowledge. Attending the conference virtually also allows you to have your preferred note taking and information gathering setup for easy reference later.
In addition to livestream access to breakout sessions and an inspiring keynote address by Jane Friedman, virtual conference attendees will enjoy opportunities for online networking, opportunities for Q&A, and six months of virtual access to live-streamed sessions and bonus recordings. 2025 Red Pencil Conference: Get the Best of Both Formats!

No matter which type of ticket you choose, we’ve got an excellent lineup that will maximize the benefits of each conference style. Plus, members of the Northwest Editors Guild save an additional $40 on registration!
