Red Pencil 2025 FAQ
When and where is the 2025 Red Pencil Conference?
Saturday, November 8, 2025 at the Lynnwood Event Center and online. More information on getting to the venue: https://lynnwoodeventcenter.com/getting-here/
What’s the theme this year?
The 2025 theme is Framing Our Future: Perspectives on a Changing Industry. We’re excited to explore how editors can play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our rapidly changing field. Our keynote speaker, Jane Friedman, will give a talk called Editing in the Age of AI: Protecting and Advancing the Craft of Writing.
What activities and networking opportunities can I look forward to?
We will have several open and structured networking opportunities: the new member meetup, Building Bridges: Networking for Freelance Editors (Block 1), Speed Networking (Block 3), and Editors Helping Editors Live! (Block 4). There will also be a drawing for completed networking bingo cards, a photobooth with prizes, activities during lunch, and plenty of time to connect with each other during breaks.
Third Place Books will be on site again to sell editing-related books and books written by our presenters. And we’ll also have a free book swap! Bring books related to editing, writing, grammar, freelancing, and small business ownership that you’re ready to pass along, and perhaps you’ll find some books to pick up and take home! Stop by the book swap on the Guild’s table in the lower concourse anytime during the day.
Is there a virtual option?
Yes, the virtual conference features live streamed sessions from the conference, plus six months of access to recordings of the live streamed sessions and some bonus sessions. Virtual conference attendees will also enjoy two networking sessions on Zoom! Check out the virtual schedule.
If I attend in person, will I be able to access the recordings?
Yes, attendees who purchase the in-person ticket that comes with recordings will get six months of access to recordings! Some sessions won’t be recorded, such as interactive workshops and networking events. Check out the in-person schedule for more details. You can still purchase access to the recordings bundle.
Do members get discounted tickets?
Yes! Guild members get discounted tickets to Red Pencil. Editors Canada members are also eligible for the member pricing. There are additional discount codes available for our affiliate organizations (other editing organizations, editing certificate programs, etc.).
Are there any pre- or post-conference events?
Yes! Back by popular demand, Guild mascot Giant Pencil (a well-dressed oversized No. 2) invites you to attend a delightfully brain-bending virtual trivia night on October 24. Test how sharp you are with questions about editing, publishing, reference books, and—of course—writing implements. Answers will not be graded, so prepare for some real eraser-busters and lots of laughs. Win prizes, learn some truly random trivia, and smirk at plenty of pencil puns along with GP and other editors! Your $5 admission fee will go to Red Pencil scholarships. Spending the evening with Giant Pencil and helping fellow editors learn is worth the price of a cup of coffee, right? This event is open to all editors, whether or not you are registered for the Red Pencil Conference in-person or virtually. Registrants must be present to win prizes.
Is there merch?
